I couldn't take it anymore. Last week I went to the doctor and she did some bloodwork on me. Well, today I got the results. Surprisingly, I have optimal cholesterol (my mom is on a lipid lowering agent for high cholesterol so I must have gotten the good genes, thanks dad!). The purpose of the blood test was really to check my hormone and thyroid levels. All normal.
So, the not so good news. I mean, the news isn't major but it definitely explains A LOT. I am deficient in iron, vitamin b12 and vitamin d. So all of my tiredness (I am a self proclaimed professional napper), paleness, and low tolerance for exercise can seriously be explained away. Why the deficiencies? That's the real question here. Due to my previous medical history of IBS and all out stomach issues, my doctor is repeating the labs and then sending me back to the gastroenterologist. I had a colonoscopy 2 years ago but she thinks that the place where these vitamins are absorbed (where the small and large intestines meet) wasn't thoroughly explored enough. So, they might do something different where I swallow a camera instead.
After researching it some, the deficiencies explain much more than just being tired. The rapid heart beat, shortness of breath, dizziness and my recent lack of concentration. I thought I was having "life overload" issues, with graduating college, getting married and starting a new career. If left untreated, a vitamin b12 deficiency can cause paranoia, confusion and depression. I think at one point or another, I have touched on all three of those!!
So besides the vitamin D once a month for six months, my doctor has also "prescribed" weight watchers and restarting couch to 5K. Once the repeat labs are back, I might have to start taking vitamin b12 injections...yay! My first thought is, I'll start tomorrow. lol. Do they make pills for motivation?
On a scarier side note. My doctor wants to do a biopsy on a beauty mark that has changed. We were talking about vitamin D and sunlight and I explained that I had not gone in the sun much this summer because I noticed the change. She took a quick look and said "yep, on another visit I am going to numb that up and send it off to pathology". The beauty mark is flat, but the border has become irregular and the colors are two different shades of brown. GREAT. and here I thought it was getting stretched out due to my weight gain. If only I am that lucky.

We did it!
Jessica, Stephanie and I completed the 5K Walk/Run for Autism in downtown Raleigh today. We basically walked and talked the whole way but it was definitely fun!

Still haven't budged
In my defense for the month of August, I had just started my new job and in addition to my 12 hour shifts, I also had classes that I had to attend. Right...so now it's september (ok mid-september) and I still have neither the motivation nor the will power to keep going. I have been sooo busy. Last week I worked 3 12 hour shifts in a row...not only does it exhaust you for those three days...but the days after is just like "ahhh I don't have a DAMN thing to do" and exercising is the LAST thing on my mind. While secondarily, this is about losing weight...it's also about the fact that I can't run 5 minutes without losing my breath. I want to be able to run. I had just gotten to the point where I had started enjoying it a little bit...it felt sort of triumphant with each minute I could tack on from the last week. All it took was that little failure and I lost it. I lost the drive and the power. I had control and I lost that too.
Being such a control freak, you'd think I'd be good at this. But I guess having to let other areas in my life go, I kind of let this go too...without really meaning to. Some areas that I've let go were definitely for the better, but this was one thing that was actually benefitting me and I don't know how it got smushed with the other stuff. It's weird because I'm actually putting myself first in other ways, besides the way that will actually personally and physically reallly benefit me. So technically, I'm still putting myself last.
It's funny how little things, like getting a haircut, is how I "put myself first". I haven't had a haircut in THREE months...I guess it's the little things though. I've also picked up two of my favorite hobbies again...photography and playing the violin. That stuff (including getting a haircut) makes me FEEL good. But it's temporary. I'm not always going to have a camera in my hand and a haircut can only last so long. But taking care of my body is for me and only me and it goes a long way. I guess I'm just tackling right now what I can handle.
I have signed up for the Heart Walk on September 27th (joined a team at work). A walk I can handle! lol...5K...maybe my goals were just a little too high in too short amount of time. I'm still going to go...but I might end up jogging/walking it and possibly alone since the other girls have progressed way far ahead of me. I'll probably drag Alan with me just so I have someone to talk to.

Another hiatus...
Wouldn't it be nice if there were no bumps in the road and I could just complete this in the time I am supposed to??? Right. Well shit happens. This week has been rough...personally, emotionally and educationally. But today was a GREAT day. I got to do something that I love and found out that I wasn't half bad at it. I even learned a few new things today.
Not only that, but I got to spend time with my nursing gals and dump a lot of my emotional load that I've been holding on to. It's really tough working in a place where a person could potentially die every day, and maybe more than one. I was part of another code blue on Friday and boy what a rush but what a terrible and sad ending. It's rough. But on Wednesday, I saw one of the patients that coded last week and made it, leave our unit in a wheel chair (which is VERY rare, they are usually transferred by bed to another floor). We rarely ever discharge patients to home because they are just too sick. But seeing that guy wheel himself out was the stuff that makes up why I love my job.
Hanging with my girls was exactly what I needed because we are all going through the same thing. While at work we don't ever have time to really talk about what just happened. One of my girls works on the same unit as I do and it's so great to be able to talk to someone who knows EXACTLY what I'm going through...and it's also good to hear the other girls' stories about what they've seen and have had to deal with.
It's so hard to talk to Alan about any of it because he gets grossed out pretty easily (and I see a lot of gross shit!). The other day (ok this is a little personal but whatever) we were in the shower and I didn't have my glasses or contacts in and I saw this black thing by his foot and I started FREAKING out thinking it was a spider, so he gets down and FLICKS it and it lands on my foot!!! I literally screamed and shook my foot in horror while COMPLETELY freaking out and it finally went down the drain. Turns out, it was a fuzzy from our black bathroom rug. =/ Alan just started cracking up because he can't believe that after all the gross stuff I see and do without a care in the world, I freak out about bugs...he thinks it's hysterical.
Work has literally been exhausting me. I'm sure this is just an adjustment period though and hopefully this week I can pick back up on Week 4 and kill that damn thing!! It's like a monkey on my back. I just want to make it to Week 5 so bad!!

W4D3..ahem...WEEK 4 FAIL!!
haha...yeah...I failed again tonight. It wasn't about my breathing but I was just plain tired and got a nasty shin splint (?) in my left shin while running. It's fine now, but wow it was nagging during the third interval so I stopped...afraid I might really hurt myself. I went for the last interval and just knew it was the end for me. So I stopped at 1.75 miles in about 23 minutes. Bummer but that really sucked and I didn't want to kill myself over it. At least I got in almost two miles. I definitely HAVE to repeat week 4 this week. I'm getting nervous because some of the other girls seem way ahead of the game than I am. I feel really slow. I hope it's just AF that is making me so drained this week. I also ate a late lunch and didn't eat before I ran, thinking it would make me feel better, but I really felt drained of energy. I definitely felt different this week so hopefully next week I can step it up and knock week 4 out of the park!!
Another downer tonight was I was talking to my dad saying how Alan and I were about to go to the gym and he started asking about it. I told him how I have been running 3x a week for the past month....Of course he's like, "so have you lost any weight?" (WTF?!?! DAD!!!!) and then he started talking about how I wouldn't want to run with ALL THAT WEIGHT ON ME....omg I wanted to cry. Who does that? And then he's like, have you ever tried that Jenny Carpenter, eh Carmen, errr Caoisdfjaioweofer...I wanted to die. Thanks dad. And yes, I'm still at 178. I haven't budged a pound...just floated around it. I remember the days when my heaviest was 172 and I only was there for like a few weeks before I started WW. I've always lived in the 160s and even THEN I thought I was a cow. I need to pull myself out of this hole.

W4 D2...what a doozie!!
Ok, I always do this. I think I'm on the up and up when clearly I'm not. Mother nature brought me her gift this morning and we had a heavy dinner (thanks Bertolli!!). We rested for an hour and then hit the gym (yes, on a Friday night!!). I'm having to like, drag Alan to the gym with me. He's always the one to be like "I don't feel good" but then always caves in at the last minute when I threaten to go without him...haha.
So we get to the gym and I'm feelin pretty good...and of course there is someone on one of the treadmills but not the glorious window one!! So I take that one and the stupid competitiveness gets the best of me. I tried to match the pace of the guy next to me. I think he was going 5.5 (I tried to peek but the glare on the monitor makes it hard). So I thought, for sure, I could go at 5.0 at least the first two intervals. And you know what??? I DID!!!! but it came with its consequences unfortunately. =/
So I did a 3 minute and then a 5 minute interval at 5.0 and when the next 3 minute interval came I went back to my comfort zone at 4.8 because I was reallllly feeling it. Mostly in my legs and a cramp in my right foot (how annoying!!) and then I started to get that "full" feeling from eating the heavy meal...NOT a good feeling when you're bouncing up and down gasping for air...lol. So then comes that last damn 5 minute interval and I started at 4.8 and HAD to cut it back to 4.6...I honestly wasn't going to make it...and I didn't. lol. I had to drop back to walking about halfway through the last 5 minute interval. FAIL!!!!
Well, not really...it just proves that I'm in the right place and I KNOW what my right pace is. I feel like it's ok to test the waters and push yourself..but not to the point where you can't complete the intervals. The last day this week (Sunday) I will definitely do 4.8 all across the board. If I can't complete it like that (which I SHOULD be able to), I'll have to repeat this week. Week 5 has you doing three different workouts (a different workout for each day) so I have to be prepared for that. I haven't seen what I'm up against but I'll do a "prepare" post probably Sunday night. I don't want to look now and psych myself out too much if I go ahead and plan to start week 5 on Tuesday. My schedule next week regardless, is going to be T/TH/Sat according to my work schedule. It's amazing what a measly 0.2 mph can do to you!!! ugh!!! I will get there though! Right now completing the workouts is more important than competing with myself (or other runners who might be next to you!) lol.
BTW, I did 2.14 miles in about 31 minutes...It's weird because the podcast is for a 29 minute workout but he talks for like at least two minutes in the beginning, so there is an extra 2 minutes of me just walking. And AGAIN, I forgot to take pictures of the new gym AND my monitor. Sunday, I'm going to make a point of it!!!

Week 4 Day 1
Completed as promised!! So a few changes on the fly...I ran at 4.8 for every interval except the last 5 minute one I ran at 4.6. This workout was tough but cutting back to 4.6 REALLY helped me be able to complete it full out. I realized that while running, I don't really "think"...which is perfect when I have a lot of things on my mind. It gives me time to clear my head and just not think about anything...without even trying. LOVE IT!!!
Lots has happened, especially at work. Yesterday I watched a man die with no family at his bedside and another woman died on the way up from the ED to claim one of my empty beds I was assigned...her family didn't even make it to the airport before she coded for the final time. Work has been tough not only physically, but emotionally as well. I don't show it while I'm there...I knew this came with the job but when I get home all of it weighs on my mind. I'm sure I'll get used to it, working in a cardiac ICU, my days and weeks will roughly be just like this...it just sucked that it happened relatively at the same time on the same shift and was almost one of my patients.
Today's workout felt good. I swear the hardest part muscle wise is that first warmup...I cut it back to 3.8 because there's no real reason I need to warm up at 4.0...3.8 was much more comfortable on my legs so I kept my walking intervals at that and cooled down at 3.6. No sense pushing myself when I'm trying to build up stamina. My settings are right in line with the bpm with the music...sometimes I feel like I'm going faster than the music. This workout also didn't give much time to recover as far as the walking intervals...after a 3 min run, 90 seconds later I'm running another 5 minute interval! Killer!!!
Oh the most annoying part about tonight was that there was some guy on the "window" treadmill and I had to start out on the squeaky one. After the first running interval, he was off the window treadmill so I switched....therefore ruining any chance of tracking my time and/or distance. But on the 2nd treadmill I did 1.5 miles in 20 minutes...so I'm not sure how that stacks up but I'm sure with the prolonged running times, it's getting better each week regardless. So I probably did 2.5 miles in 30 minutes but I can't recall the stats from the first treadmill...and that was the warmup and 1st 5 minute interval, I think?
Well, hopefully this one tired me out enough to give me a good nights' rest. I work another 12hr shift tomorrow from 7a-7p but have to be up at 5:30am just to get there on time.
BTW, my diet still sucks. I'm at 179 after 3 freakin' weeks of this crap. If it doesn't budge after this week, I'm going to have to do some serious meal planning. Good thing about where I work they post nutritional information and the menu in advance...this way if I do have to eat in the cafeteria, at least I'll know what I'm really eating. =/

So I haven't double checked to make sure the intervals are correct, but hopefully they are. UM 5 MINUTES?!?!? Crap...so much for my plan to run at 5.0 in the MIDDLE of the workout. I think at least for day 1 this week, I will stay in my comfort zone and run at 4.8. Looks like this week is going to be a real challenge but I know I can do it!! Probably not tomorrow after my 12 hour shift!! lol..but I have 12's on M, T and TH. So looks like W, F and Sun might be my days. I have some FitTv shows ready to be recorded on our DVR so I'll make sure to be doing something on my off days.

Week 3 COMPLETE!
Ok, so 2 miles in 27:46....haha a little better than D2 this week! lol. I FINALLY got a pic of the new treadmill monitor. This time I hit "cool down" and it took me down to 2.3 mph and then I stepped on the siderails with the treadmill still running and took a photo as best I could. lol. Turns out..it STILL erases most of the info...gah!! But I did 2.14 miles total. When you hit the cool down button it starts the timer over again and counts down a 3 minute cool down. How ANNOYING!!! =/ Not even worth uploading IMO. Next time I'll just keep it where I'm at and step off and take a pic with it still running at my pace. I meant to take a pic of the entire gym but I forgot again...haha.
Anyways. Week 3 is donzo!! I meant to run last night but got caught up in organizing our finances late at night. I get my first paycheck at the end of the week and I'm sooooo excited! It's only half a paycheck though since we came in the middle of a pay period but I'll take it!
Today's workout seemed a little harder. I've had a killer headache almost the whole day and finally gave in and took advil a few minutes ago. I ran at 5.0 for the first two intervals and then at 4.8 for the last three. 4.8 definitely seems like my comfort zone so I think I may start at that and kick in the 5.0 mid workout instead to change it up.
Here are Week 3's bpm and tracks:
25 minutes from 130 to 140 BPM
BPM CHART
5-minute warmup @ 130 BPM 1:45-6:45
90 seconds @ 140 BPM 6:48-8:18
90 seconds @ 130 BPM 8:18-9:54
3 minutes @ 140 BPM 9:54-12:58
3 minutes @ 130 BPM 12:58-16:00
90 seconds @ 140 BPM 16:00-17:33
90 seconds @ 130 BPM 17:34-19:08
3 minutes @ 140 BPM 22-25 19:09-22:12
22:12-25:17 *** this interval is not listed on the site but is in the mix!!! 3 minutes @ 130bpm
4-min. 10-sec. cooldown @ 130 BPM 25:17-29:26
PLAYLIST:
01. Industry - Release Me (Peter Rauhofer Reconstruction Mix)
02. Marcelo Castelli - Montevideo (Original Mix)
03. Indart, Chus & Ceballos - Buenos Beats (Iberican Vibes EP)
04. Absolute - Dance Music Programme (Pagano in Heaven Mix)
05. Rob Curtis & Anisotropic - Quicksilver (Anisotropic Remix)
06. Nat Monday - Waiting (John Creamer & Stephane K Mix)
Weird because I've been ending on running as the music fades out. I start my warmup as he is talking and the full track is 29:26. He talks for 1:45 in the beginning...So I'm actually doing like a 7 minute warmup...at the end it has extra music that I've been running to...a FULL 4 MINUTE INTERVAL!!!! haha..no WONDER I kept saying how hard that "last" interval was....lol!!! I listened the the mix on my laptop and took the info from djsteveboy.com to find out what the deal is. Basically, there is a 3 minute interval of walking that is missing from the written program...and then after that it's supposed to be a 4 minute warm down. WOOPS!! Maybe I'm the only idiot that made the mistake, but I mean...it IS confusing!! And that last track is my fave!! Work it...work work work work, work it work it...oooooh release me!!...haha it's the only thing that kept me going on my "extra" running interval. I thought that last interval was a little harsh!! But hey, I will benefit from the extra work so I'm not that upset...lol. So the end is really a 7 minute warm down since it's the same bpm.
Needless to say, I will map out Week 4 before I do it to make sure I can plan out my mph intervals. ;)

90 seconds @ 130 BPM 17:34-19:08
3 minutes @ 140 BPM 22-25 19:09-22:12
22:12-25:17 *** this interval is not listed on the site but is in the mix!!! 3 minutes @ 130bpm
4-min. 10-sec. cooldown @ 130 BPM 25:17-29:26
PLAYLIST:
01. Industry - Release Me (Peter Rauhofer Reconstruction Mix)
02. Marcelo Castelli - Montevideo (Original Mix)

05. Rob Curtis & Anisotropic - Quicksilver (Anisotropic Remix)

YEAH!!!! I finished 2 miles in 27:49...lol. I have to tell you, I was almost more comfortable running at 4.8 than walking at 4.0. I was going to go for an interval at 5.0 but I'm glad I didn't. I feel like I'm letting my body adjust to the higher overall speed and longer intervals of running. Running, I was almost relaxed and I couldn't believe how fantastic my breathing was. Except for that last interval!!!! MAN was I biting the bullet to finish it.
Still loving the music of Week 3..."ooooh release me" lol. and there's this one techno beat that I just LOVE! Really keeps me going.
I still can't figure out how to work the new treadmill. On the old one, when I pressed stop, it left my time, distance, etc up on the screen. When I stop this one (I even tried cool down first to try and make sure the info stayed up long enough for me to take a pic) it just goes back to the drawing board. =/ And the squeak is back, so I think on Saturday I'll use the treadmill next to the window (dun, dun, dunnnnnnn) lol.
One dangerous thing that happened is b/c the treadmill is off level a bit it shakes when I run and the remote popped out of it's cubby and landed on the treadmill belt!!!! I was quick enough to jump over it but wow, I could have really gotten hurt. I don't even watch the tv, so next time...that bad boy is going somewhere else! ;)
So glad I altered the days I ran this week to fit my work schedule. I only had a 4 hour abnormal assessment class today and tomorrow I work another 12 hr shift from 7a-7p. I like working out on the nights I have to be up at the crack of dawn because I sleep really well!
BTW, I still can't get my diet under control. UGH!!! It's work...first it was the cafeteria--and then I started bringing my lunch...now it's the vending machines when I get those salty/sweet cravings...and the free coffee doesn't help. I have to put like 6 packets of sugar to make it tolerable for me!!!! soooooo bad!! But I need to stay awake during these classes!!

Week 3 Day 1
Holy cow I got back on the train!! So here are the highlights of todays (tonights) workout. Two words: NEW GYM!!! I was so excited I forgot to take a picture. My new treadmill is SICK!!
I want to start out by saying that if it wasn't for my knotties, I don't think I would have been ashamed enough to work out tonight. lol,,, A lot of you have been keeping tabs on me and checking up to see how I am doing and I can not relay to you HOW MUCH I appreciate that. You guys are really keeping me going and holding me accountable--just like I asked of you! :) It's so easy to let myself down but how awful would it feel to tell you guys that I gave up. How ass backwards is THAT!?!? I need to work on my self worth.
So, I ran an interval at 5.0!! After the first round at 4.8, I felt really good and told myself that the move must have woken up some muscles I hadn't used in a long time. I'm not sure what happened tonight, but I made it through W3D1!! I had to stop once because the treadmill is new and wasn't level and was squeaking really loudly (thank goodness it was just me and the hubs in the gym..how embarrassing!!) but thankfully it wasn't my fattiness or the new shoes (which I am still in love with btw!).
On a note so motivating note, I've dropped the ball on the diet aspect. I started work last Monday and it was just so much easier to bring money and eat in the cafeteria (and drink lots of coffee with massive amounts of sugar to stay awake). So I will be chincing out and weighing in next week. I think I may be back where I started. =/ BUT, I am making progress in other areas. My legs feel a lot stronger and I used my abs A LOT moving.
I was going to work out yesterday but realized that Wednesday and Friday I work 12 hour shifts and I KNOW that getting on the treadmill would be the last thing I'd want to do after a 7a-7p shift. ugh!! So, today I had off and Thursday I just have a 4 hour class and Saturday I have no plans besides finishing week 3!!
By the way, I really enjoyed this weeks podcast...I was singing one of the songs and had it in my head for a while after the workout. Something about feel your body and up and down, up and down...lol. You'll hear what I'm talking about!

Moving Sucks!!!
So...I still haven't started week 3. In fact, after busting my ass moving this weekend (btw we finished MOVING last night-long story) I think I've literally gained 5 pounds. I hope it's from my body holding onto water due to the shock of walking up and down 3 flights of stairs for 3 days straight carrying heavy boxes. (pleasssse let it be that). I have to admit...I was a bad BAD girl this weekend...lol. Yes I ate cookout...when you're moving (and have no electricity in said new apartment yet) you eat what you can...which meant OUT for us.
The move was almost a disaster. Thank god Alan's friend showed up to help us move the heavy stuff. At 2:00 our 17' u-haul was due back and we weren't finished. They had our truck already rented out so they offered us a van to switch it out. Well turns out after we dropped the truck off and went off to lunch to wait for the van to be ready...another 14' truck had been returned and they gave that one to us. Thank GOODNESS that happened because with all the stuff we still had left, a van wasn't going to cut it. We took over two more truck loads (not packed to the max but all that the two of us could manage). I have to say that moving lets you know who your friends really are. I now remember the reason why that last time we moved, I insisted we hire movers...the movers ended up sucking but in hindsight it was way better than what happened this weekend.
We still have to move some odds and ends out of our old apartment and clean it up. Our keys are due Friday for that one. We actually had to camp out in the living room on Saturday and Sunday night because our power in the new apartment couldn't be turned on until Monday. I didn't know progress energy didn't come out on Saturdays (our lease start date) and didn't know we could have turned it on Friday. I figured usually apartments have the electric on for your convenience (in their account name until you switch it over) but didn't realize that with new construction you are basically SOL. Good thing we moved out a week early and still had our old apartment as a back up.
I also started my first nursing job on Monday. When I got home from orientation yesterday, our power was on, but the AC WASN'T WORKING. Apparently, they just throw apartment buildings together and don't make sure the AC unit is hooked up to the correct apartment. So we were cooling the apartment above us the whole freaking day. UGH!!!! Thank god I called right before the office closed and they had someone out here in like 5 minutes and they fixed it in about 15 minutes. DEF. a close call.
Needless to say, I haven't started week 3 yet...my legs, feet, back and everything else is KILLING me...but I really am hoping to complete week 3 on W/F/Sun...if at all possible. Depending on how I feel I may have to start week 3 on monday but I REALLY don't want to do that. I'm just hoping that all that moving will balance out how crappy I ate this weekend. If not, it's back to the drawing board!!! I'm not going to weigh in again until this Monday, just because I said so!! :P

W2D3-Yeah 2 miles!!!

Talk about turning it up a notch! For the 4 out of the 6 intervals of jogging, I amped it up to 4.8mph instead of 4.6mph and FINALLY went over 2 miles in 30 minutes. It felt good to jog at that speed because I didn't feel like I was plodding as much. I would have done 4.8 for all of the intervals but I was just testing the waters for one of them and decided not to push it all the way since we're moving tomorrow. It sure felt good though! Oh!! and no creepy guy at the gym today. :D
BTW, buh-bye Week 2!! I'm moving on!!! ;)
I just want to brag...
That my jeans fit better. Seems weird to happen so quickly but they are my favorite pair. They had started to fall down because they were too tight..and I kept having to pull them up to get them over my hips (and squeeze in the fat...ew muffin top!!). haha that's so gross but it's the truth when you wear jeans that don't fit you anymore!! It's like I didn't want to "graduate" out of them. No WAY was I going to give in and buy bigger pants...even if it meant I had to wear the same three pairs of pants since the wedding...haha. Even my "big" pants had started to get really snug. ugh....NO MORE!!!
It's weird that the biggest difference I can tell in my body is my love handles. Like they just tightened up all of the sudden. My stomach is also getting noticeably flatter and my butt seems higher. Sorry, but if you're like me, you analyze these things in the mirror. It's hard not to, especially when you're working your ass off to improve your shape.
I'm about to do W2D3!! Hopefully there are no weirdos at the gym...but if there are, this is the LAST time I have to work out there!! New apt. gym (with barely anyone living there yet b/c it's new construction!) here I come!! :)

OMG I didn't work out today?!?!
...but if it counts, I've been packing boxes the last two hours. I'm going to get a killer workout on Saturday because we are moving out of our THIRD FLOOR apartment. So I figure missing pilates today isn't a big deal. I'm definitely doing C25K tomorrow afternoon, because tomorrow night it's down to the wire with packing.
I can't believe how much stuff we have accumulated!!! We've lived together almost 3 years so we've already combined our stuff, which is a relief (I do not want the stress of that again!!). Although we still have two irons and four (count 'em!) FOUR printers (and yes we fought about getting rid of the THREE extra printers that we have..unbelievable!! I won...DH's argument was that we needed a back up, but honestly...they are so old and crappy anyways, I'd rather just go and buy a new one!!). My DH is SUCH a pack rat!!! But I know where he gets it from. ;)
We have made a few trips to the goodwill already and I have sold a bunch of stuff from the wedding, but THE WEDDING...OMG we have soooo much new stuff that's still in boxes b/c we didn't want to have to repack it weeks later. Most of the gifts are from my showers in NC and NY (holy cow, NY!!!!). I just can't get over it.

W2D2-C25K
Fat Guy In A Little Suit!!! haha sorry, that last post about "grilled cheese and tomato soup" made me think of that line!! It rhymes...and I'm hysterical. =/
So!! I got me-self a new pair of kicks!! and apparently, I am an over pronator. :( but at least I'm not flat footed!! lol...
So today was W2D2 and let me tell you how jeals I was of the girl running next to me. She did two 10 min. runs with like a 3 minute brisk walk in between. Skinny bitch!! j/k. I will get there!! And at least she was the one to get harassed by the creepy guy at our gym...that's what you get for not wearing headphones and not pretending like you don't see him!! rookie...;)
I find the first warm up walk and the middle of the workout are the hardest to get into. It's so weird that I find myself pushing it at the end. Even though I'm probably breathing the hardest, it's like I want to make it count (and I was trying to look more similar to the girl next to me...lol I'm too competitive). I did a little less "plodding" today. Pushing myself consisted of picking up my feet a little higher and man it's HARD!! My knees felt great during the run, so I know it's definitely the new sneaks. I didn't feel any pressure in my arches and I found myself taking longer strides as well...which really helps me feel those thighs and buns working...yeah girl!
BTW, my hubs can already tell some of my chubs is going away. ;) I am definitely tighter and I love it!! and also, it was ME who dragged HIM to the gym tonight!! haha

Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup
Classic!! I make my Campbell's Tomato Soup with about a cup of skim milk to make it creamier (than water at least!) ;). I adapted a grilled cheese that just uses pam cooking spray instead of butter. It may be a drier grilled cheese, but who's counting when you're dipping it into your tomato soup!!! Heaven!
Tomato Soup:
1 can of Campbell's Tomato Soup
1 can of skim milk (or about 1 cup)
Mix together on medium heat in a saucepan until hot!
Grilled Cheese:
2 slices of honey wheat bread (or other low cal and/or high fiber bread)
1 slice of Borden Grilled Cheese Melts
1/3 spray of Pam Original Cooking Spray
Spray skillet with Pam and heat on medium. Lay two slices of bread on skillet and one piece of cheese on one slice. Let cheese melt and check until golden brown. When browned, flip second slice of bread onto "cheesed" bread and serve and cut!
Nutritional Info:
(as above)
Tomato Soup-1 serving=1/2 cup-180 calories, 0g fat and 1g fiber.
Grilled Cheese-(depending on bread being used)-200 calories, 6g fat and 2g of fiber.
Total Meal=380 calories, 6g fat and 3g of fiber.
I realize I just posted how to make grilled cheese and tomato soup. Simple right? But this blog is for me to skim through meals that I've eaten that are simple and most of all healthier. You know, on those days/nights when you just can't decide what you want to eat??? A quick, simple meal that is always a hit is a no brainer.
Winsor Pilates-Accelerated Body Sculpting
So this is the 1 hour pilates workout I've been talking about and what a butt kicker!!! Literally, I mostly felt my abs, buns and thighs in this workout but it also concentrates on control and flexibility. We'll see how I feel tomorrow, but I doubt I'll do this again on Thursday. I think at least this week I'll alternate it with Winsor Pilates' 20 minute workout. I also have a bunch of shows from FitTV DVR'd, so I might add in one of those as well. One of the girls on the board does Namaste Yoga and it seemed pretty relaxing while stretching and toning, so I might include it on Thursday.
Quaker Instant Oatmeal-Lower Sugar, Maple & Brown Sugar
Cinnamon Sugar Biscuits
Cinnamon Sugar Biscuits
Adapted from a Bisquick Box
These aren't the prettiest things, but I LOVE quick and easy recipes...especially sweet ones! This version of bisquick biscuits takes me back to my high school days. After school, we'd all end up at my friend Tammy's house and her mom always had these in the freezer ready for us to microwave and enjoy!! YUM!
Recipe:
2 1/4 cups of regular bisquick mix
2/3 cup of skim milk
2 tsp. of cinnamon sugar
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Mix bisquick and milk together in a bowl with a large spoon. Drop by 9 spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle 2 tsp. of cinnamon sugar over all 9 biscuits. Bake for 8-10 minutes (mine took 10) or until golden brown.
Nutritional Info:
Makes 9 servings
Each serving has- 135 calories, 3.8g fat and 0.8g of fiber. 3 pts a piece.
I usually eat these with butter, but while watching the waist, I decided to cut it out. But if you don't give two craps..I highly recommend buttering them! They are also great with a nice cup of fat free skim milk. ;)

W2D1 Success!!!
Not bad, not bad. I convinced my new husband to go to the gym with me tonight. I swear, the world was against me going to the gym today. First the rain (i.e. sleeping in), then I realized I had forgotten to watch the SYTYCD results show last Thursday (thank goodness for DVR!!), then I realized I had forgotten to eat (thank goodness for a quick PB&J), then I get an email that our Pro-pics from our wedding are up!!!
Gasp!!
I am in love. ::le sigh::
So after ogling over those babies for like 30 minutes, DH finally dragged my arse to the gym...which was unthankfully packed...but at least the two treadmills were free.
Did I write about the creepy guy that's always there? ugh. He just sits there, not working out EVER, and watches TV. I got mad last week when I had the remote for the left TV and he had the remote for the right and SOMEHOW he kept changing my channel (HELLLOO?!?! Ellen is V-important!!! lol). It's a gym, not a place you can go because you don't have cable. ugh.
Anyways, hello week two..nice to meet you! It wasn't as bad considering my COMPLETE lack of motivation today. But the moral of today's story is that I REALLY NEED NEW SHOES. This isn't about rewards, my feet and knees are taking a beating. We couldn't go tonight because the one I wanted to go to closed at 6:00 and DH got home too late. So, tomorrow afternoon after pilates (I'm going to go for the hour long workout this time!) I will head down there and plan on spending $80-$100. Just setting myself up to avoid sticker shock.
The workout itself was oddly (or not) better than last week. I was actually looking forward to the last interval of jogging!! Really, in my head I said "c'mon throw another one at me!"...::shocker::!! I had no idea where the inner voice came from but I really honestly think it was because there were other people there (lol) and I was really enjoying the music in the DJ Beatsmith Week 2 of the podcast runners mix. MUCH better than the first week. (although I'll always remember from week 1 that when the Bollywood music came on I was HOME FREE!! lol).
To avoid embarassment, I didn't take a pic of the treadmill monitor but I got through about 1.92 miles at 3o minutes but I only burned 162 calories (I think I forgot to adjust the weight you are supposed to punch in at the beginning, if that affects cals burned??..not sure).
Week 2-to be continued...
Well, this is the start of week two and I just posted my weigh in for this Monday. This weekend definitely dropped my motivation a little bit but I am ready (almost) to get back on track. It's been pouring, which made it realllly hard to get out of bed today (I get the best sleep when it's raining outside). So now I'm sitting here contemplating whether or not I should wait for DH to get home so I can acquire a nice pair of comfortable running shoes or suffer in the pair I have and just get it done and over with for the day. I think the right shoes just might be the motivation I need today and he should be home in an hour or two...I also may need to get used to doing the program at night since next week I'll have orientation from 8-5. Decisions, decisions...

If I continue at the rate I'm going, I could quite possibly reach my goal for a 5% weight loss by 8/3. Considering I had a rather disappointing weekend in the control category, I must say I am happy with the 3 pound loss. I guess that's what happens when you have company, get drunken like a sailor on a Friday night, and eat out basically the ENTIRE weekend...but it could have been wayyy worse. Then again, if I had had some self control, I feel like I could have easily lost 4-5 pounds this week. On to the next...

Just dying for some chocolate cake that you can make in a snap and won't kill your calorie counting efforts?!? Here is your answer!!
Spray the inside of a coffee mug with non-stick spray. Combine all of these ingredients together and mix with a spoon until thoroughly blended:
2 T cake flour
2 T sugar
2 T skim milk
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. cocoa powder
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. canola oil
a pinch of salt
Pour into sprayed mug and microwave on high for 75 seconds. Turn out onto a plate and enjoy!! Not bad for 220 calories!
My DH said it was pretty good...and it is!! (for emergencies it's good enough!) ;)

Week 1 FINISHED!
So a 16 min. mile is pretty crappy. But I know it will get better...especially since it's interval training and not running the whole way through (which there is NO way I could do).
I have to tell you...probably a dozen times during this workout, I wanted to quit. For some reason, today was not about sore muscles, but just hotness...pure and simple hotness borderlining exhaustion. I kept thinking of ways to cheat ("oh I'll just walk through the next jogging interval") but I didn't do it. I wanted to finish week one with honesty and full force. There's no way I can half-ass this.
I am literally dripping sweat still..and starting to get that energy burst after the workout. Kinda feels good ;)
Going to try and be good this weekend with the calories...I have one of my bridesmaids and good friend coming into town tonight for the weekend and I"m sure we'll be eating out. Good thing that iPhone app "Lose It!" (which is still awesome by the way! I can't believe it's free!!!) has restaurant guides as well. I've been saving my calories for tonight though...actually maybe that's why todays workout was so hard...I've only eaten 65 calories. I ate a quick snack (Quaker Oat Mini Caramel Corn Cakes-60 cal/serving) and had a Crystal Light Peach Tea (5 cals). I probably need another snack or a small "lunch". We probably won't be eating till 8ish (I know that's bad but there is a curve here). ;)
BTW, I met my first goal! I finished week one and therefore I will be shopping for my new running shoes (at a running store, you all convinced me!) hopefully this weekend so I can wear them on Monday for Week 2!
Team NC Knotties Update!!
We have some new members!! Yay for Tiffany and Stephanie!! I think we have one more member waiting in the wings to join (Krystal where are you!?!?) ;) so I'm super excited that our team is coming together. I know our goal was set at 5 members (and it looks like we are going to hit that mark!) but I hope many more knotties decide to do this with us!
Sleeping
Wow, exercising wears me out. I mean at first I get a boost of energy and then I just zonk out. Like for 12 hours!! I woke up at like 12:30 this afternoon...and COMPLETELY surprised when I looked over at the clock and saw the time. I woke up earlier when DH left for work around 8am and just zonked back out again.
This cycle will need to break because on the 27th I start my new job and it's a bunch of 8:30-5's for orientation. Either I'm going to have to wake up super early to get in my C25K or do it at night, which I'm probably more apt to do! ;)

Campbell's Cheesy Chicken & Rice Casserole
We decided to make this for dinner tonight (the full fat version b/c it's what we had on hand) and substituted broccoli for the mixed vegetables and used mozzarella cheese (b/c again, that's what we had on hand!--it was actually a sargento string cheese grated..lol) ;)
Review: This recipe was DELICIOUS!! DH and I really enjoyed it and can't wait to make it again. Make sure you let it stand the 10 minutes because it comes really thick and creamy!

Trim It Down: Use Campbell's® 98% Fat Free Cream of Chicken Soup instead of regular soup and use low fat cheese instead of regular cheese.
Mexican: In place of onion powder and pepper use 1 teaspoon chili powder. Substitute Mexican cheese blend for Cheddar.
Italian: In place of onion powder and pepper use 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, crushed. Substitute 1/3 cup shredded Parmesan for Cheddar.

I love weenies!!
Well really, I love pigs in a blanket and I was very excited to receive this Hungry Girl email this morning. Scroll down for HG's De-Pudged Pigs in a Blanket.
Here is the easy and delicious recipe:

Ingredients:
1 fat-free (or nearly fat-free) hot dog (like the ones by Oscar Mayer, Hebrew National and Ball Park)
1 portion Pillsbury Reduced Fat Crescent roll dough
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cut hot dog into 4 even pieces. Stretch or roll out the triangle-shaped dough slightly, to make it a larger triangle. Cut dough into 4 long, narrow triangles. Beginning at the base of each triangle, roll a piece of the hot dog up in the dough until the point of each triangle wraps around the center. Place dogs on an ungreased baking pan and cook for about 12 minutes (until dough appears slightly browned and crispy). Enjoy!
Serving Size: 4 pieces (entire recipe)
Calories: 135
Fat: 5g
Sodium: 645mg
Carbs: 15g
Fiber: 0g
Sugars: 3g
Protein: 7.5g
*3 Points
My only complaint is the picture shows TWO portions of this recipe. =/ Which I'd totally eat...but 270 calories isn't bad for a main lunch item. I would suggest the Hebrew National 97% fat free hot dogs...yum!

Goal Weights
I know I've already posted my first weigh in on Monday and my goal weight is 155 lbs. I picked 155 lbs because it brings me down to a BMI of 25 which is considered healthy and it's one pound less than I was able to get down to while on Weight Watchers 2 years ago.
I think smaller goals are in order here. I'm going to go with my first goal weight of being a 5% loss.
I started this blog at 178 lbs. A 5 % loss would be 9 lbs which would bring me to 169 as my first goal weight and at a BMI of 27. I think getting back into the 160s is a GREAT first goal for me. Of course I want to lose weight at a healthy rate of 2 lbs per week (hopefully not counting the first week since you usually lose all the water weight too).
I need to set these smaller goals to keep me from getting discouraged and to have small triumphs to celebrate.
%loss weight +/- BMI date
5% 169 -9 27 8/3/09
10% 160 -18 26 9/7/09
13% 155 -23 25 9/28/09
15% 151 -27 24 10/12/09
20% 142 -36 23 11/16/09
I will work hard to try to achieve these goals up until a point where I am happy with my physical fitness and body image. Do I need to be 142 lbs to be happy? Probably not, but we'll see where this takes me. Right now, 155 would make me EXTREMELY happy and proud. So if my weight loss journey stopped (and hopefully stayed!) there, I wouldn't be upset with myself.
I've selected the 5K I'm going to run!
Well with a little help from fellow knottie Jessica! She informed me of a 5K on Saturday October 10, 2009 starting in Moore Square in Raleigh, NC. It's called the 2009 Triangle Walk/Run for Autism and I think we are going to try and get a team together (I suggested "Team NC Knotties"...lol). Best of all we get to help raise money for autism in the process!
I am so stoked that I have a solid goal. Alan wants to do this one as well but I know for sure he'll run ahead of me (we've been through that before! lol) so I am so happy that I have at least one person so far willing to do it with me! Hopefully we can get more girls on board. Many have seemed really interested in the fitness threads that got started on our board. Yay! (thank you motivation!!)

Rewards...
I think from time to time, to keep myself motivated, I will come up with rewards for small triumphs. I haven't figured out my rewards for finishing C25K, but I really think just finishing it will be the big reward (and not missing the pounds I have hopefully shed).
So, in celebration of my finishing my first week of C25K (and never having to wait a table again!!--that's how these babies got so beat up) I am going to treat myself to a new pair of running shoes. Really, it's more like a necessity than a reward, as I know my ankles, knees and back will thank me for it! ;)
Any suggestions on a great pair of running shoes?
C25K Day 2-Week 1
Wow. Just, wow. My thighs are pulsing as we speak but for the second time...I DID IT!! I have to say day 2 was a little tougher because of my sore thigh muscles, but I pushed through it. YAY!
So, a few days ago, some knotties and I were discussing how out of shape we were. We were joking about how red our faces get...but I'd like to pose a challenge...I think I have you all beat. I wasn't kidding....
Pretty scary isn't it?
haha...
One Hundred Push Ups
One Hundred Push Ups is sooo easy to stick with. Last year before I took my boudoir pictures, I was able to complete the program and I definitely saw a difference in my arms. When I started, I couldn't do ONE regular push up. I completed the programs doing the modified (knees) pushup. I hope to incorporate this into my workout soon (it takes like 10 minutes a day to do this) to help tone up my arms again. I plan on doing the whole program over and over again until I can do regular push ups throughout the whole thing.
Choco-Pumpkin Cupcakes
Holy goodness. This was one of my FAVORITE recipes when I was on weight watchers two years ago. It's SUPER easy and SUPER delicious. I am such a choc-aholic, this was a life saver when those chocolate cravings kicked in.
Recipe:
1 box of Devils Food Cake Mix (or you can use Spice Cake Mix for a different flavor)
1 can of Libby's 100% Pure Packed Pumpkin
1/2 cup of water
Bake according to the cupcake directions on the cake mix box and get ready for some moist deliciousness like you've never tasted. You can do mini cupcakes or the regular sized but this will adjust your calories (duh).
Stats:
unavailable but I think I recall them being around 100 calories per cupcake. I can't find pumpkin anywhere at my local grocery store (conspiracy? lol) but once I do and make these again I will post the stats. Or you could figure it out from the two ingredients. ;)
Lean Pockets
These are great!! I got the whole grain three cheese & broccoli and it only has 250 calories and is quite filling. Best part is, they are done in the microwave in 2:15!! ;)
Stats:
250 Calories
6g Fat
4g Fiber
Winsor Pilates and The 30 Day Shred
LOVE this workout...and I was very sad to see that it is not available for purchase in the US anymore?!? Very weird...so I contacted Guthy Renker (the company that makes the videos), to see what was up. I'll let you know when and if I get a reply.
This is a great workout for my "off" days on C25K. Basically C25K kills my thighs (at least this far) and pilates is a great exercise that is easy on the joints. It works my core muscles like nothing else I've done! I've only been doing the 20 minute workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays and once my progress moves along, I plan on doing the 1 hour workout on Tuesdays and Thursdays instead.
Eventually I want to incorporate the 30 Day Shred into my weekly workouts but that video KILLS me!! haha. Jillian is a beast and I never made it past level I on my last attempt. (I'm such a wimp). But one of the best parts about 30DS is that it's cheap!
I think the key to this whole weight loss/toning up thing is to vary your exercising. I think C25K would be great on it's own, but I feel like I'm maximizing my efforts by including pilates and other exercise programs. Plus it will help prevent me from getting bored with my workout.

iPhone App Mania!!
So yesterday, my 16GB iPhone 3Gs came into my local AT&T store for pickup. You bet as soon as I got the email it was in, I ran over there (well not literally but I drove fast). I absolutely LOVE this thing!!! I downloaded a great App called "Lose It!". It reminds me so much of WW online tools that you have to PAY for. Best part is, this app is FREE!! It gives me a calorie budget for the day and I enter in the foods I eat. So far it's search option is great and pulls up all kinds of foods, including brand names. There is also a search option for restaurant foods! I can also add in exercise and it subtracts that from my calories (using an estimated number of calories burned). Being that it's on my phone, I doubt I'll have trouble keeping up with it. The WW online tools are an inconvenience because if I've eaten out or at a friends house, I have to wait until I come home and try to remember every measurement of everything I've eaten. I'm really psyched about this, and I think it will be a great tool to help in my weight loss journey.
BTW, I slept until 1pm today. Yesterday really zonked me out! Told you I was a napper!! ;) What can I say? I love my sleep. But maybe that should be a new goal...to wake up earlier and earlier. ugh. Too many changes at once!! haha. Maybe later once I get this running thing down...and who knows? That might remedy itself with all of the energy I'm expecting running to give me. (or shall I say, jogging?).
Krispy Kreme Challenge
While on the knot yesterday, I may have found a few possible workout buddies!! One of them, Krystal, got me to want to do the Krispy Kreme Challenge. Basically you have to run 2 miles, down a dozen donuts and then run 2 miles back to the NC State Bell Tower all under an hour!! haha. I doubt I'll go as a competitor but I'd just like to finish the race (ok and maybe eat a few donuts..). ;) They don't have info up for the 2010 race but maybe by then I can actually enter as a competitor?? lol. I'll update once the info is up!

First Post and Day 1 of week 1- C25K
So, why the name? Because I spend most of my spare lazy time, sleeping. That's right, sleeping. My lack of energy and motivation leads me to my comfy bed. Ask anyone I know. If I don't answer the phone, I'm probably napping. I get slack for it a lot.
But seriously, I am no means a runner. Not even a jogger or even a walker. My doctor thinks I have exercise induced asthma, but I just call it FAS...aka "fat ass syndrome". I'm out of shape...that's why I feel like someone is strangling me every time I attempt a run like workout.
Let me start by taking you back, about a year ago. Last summer I had heard wonders about this "Couch to 5k" program that everyone was raving about. I mean people twice my size were doing this workout and becoming runners and (and this is the key) ENJOYING IT. What was wrong with these people? So one day I decided that my FI (at the time) and I would go to the lake with our ipods and try it out. BIG MISTAKE.
Half way through (with my FI way ahead of me and pissing me off--show off!!) I started to get that dry throat-gasping for breath effect that always happens to me. Not only that, my fingers and feet were numb and my fingers had swelled SO much that I couldn't get my rings off (for a good hour). I cried...hard. Not only was I embarrassed but I was scared that I was THAT out of shape. So what did I do? I gave up.
Now here I am after yo-yo'ing around with my weight...and I'm the heaviest I've ever been. I just got married a month ago and yes, I was the heaviest I had ever been at my wedding. I think I topped the scale at 180 pounds and I'm 5'6"... and I have never been so upset with myself. I had lost control. Even after the wedding, I couldn't STOP eating...even when I was trying to be mindful of it. The fridge or the pantry ALWAYS won.
Now, this sounds reallly dumb..but I started watching the show "So You Think You Can Dance" and holy hell how jealous I am of their bodies. Damn them!! But, I've never been so inspired to take control of my body back. So, Friday..I buckled down and dusted off my Windsor Pilates DVD and did the 20 minute workout. No big deal right?? WRONG...all day Saturday and Sunday I was sore as EVER...for TWENTY measly minutes. Absolutely ridiculous. So I decided to try and restart the C25K program. I grabbed my 1980s ipod shuffle and hit the gym today...and I FINISHED IT!! :) All 30 freaking minutes. I have never been so proud of myself.
The key was...I went at my own pace. I went from 3.5-4.6mph and while for some that may seem super slow...it's what I had to do. I bet you $10 I'm going to be sore tomorrow again. I want to start really slow (to avoid EIA attacks) and work up my stamina and speed. I am using the DJ Beatsmith Pod Runner Intervals which you can download for free on itunes here. (link will open your itunes app). You can find the original version of C25K at http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
